3 Reviews of the Torino 500
By: Riff Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2007 Rating:
One winter's day, I spent an few hours on the interweb looking for a tent to be primarily used at music festivals. It had to fit several criteria:
- Fairly lightweight because at some festivals it's a fair old hike from car to campsite
- Reasonably cheap in case it got trashed
- Tall enough to stand up in
- Big enough to take me, hubby and all our gear
- Small porch to stick mucky gear in
- Easy to put up
I settled on the Torino 500 after examining all the spec, ordered one from eBay and I must say it's brilliant.
It can be erected by one person if need be but pitches inner first which could be a problem if it's raining.
The sleeping area is ample for two with camp beds, but a squeeze for three.
The build quality isn't the best, but I can't complain for the price. I do recommend tying the outer tent to the poles for extra stability. It should prolong the life of the tent if you take this simple step and keeps the whole structure more sturdy.
This tent is extremely waterproof. I have no idea what the HH rating is, but it kept us bone dry at a very wet Glastonbury in 2007 and survived the hurricane at Bearded Theory in 2009.
It has the advantage of mesh in the apex, so condensation has never been an issue. There's also lots of storage pockets dotted around the inner.
It has a small porch with it's own separate groundsheet. There's enough room for two people to sit in (with chairs) or space for one person to cook in wet or windy conditions.
Overall it's a versatile tent that didn't cost a fortune and has had many night's use in the years we've owned it (not just at festivals). I look forward to many more.

I've had this tent for 4 seasons now (2006-2009). It has stood up well against all weathers - wind, rain, sun!
Purchased from Outdoor Megastore. I paid £65 with delivery.
It's classed as a 4 man tent but I doubt you could fit 4 in comfortably. I've used it mainly on my own but have shared with a mate, and we each used a camping bed.
A benefit with this tent is being able to stand up in it which is good for my back!
I look forward to many more camping trips using this tent.

A great little weekender. For a couple it was a comfortable stay for a week. This little tent stood up to torrential rain and gales for almost a week without leaks or mishap and we could even stand upright.Unusual for a three berth in this price range. Especially as we picked up this little gem for the princely sum of £50
